Since the Chinese government launched the Western Development Strategy in 2000, the western region of China has achieved fast-track economic and social development. The growth and openness of the region has awed the world, while preferential policies of the central government towards the region have attracted crowds of overseas businesses to participate in the western development campaign. As the Western Development Strategy advances, the economic, political and cultural ties between the western region and the Pan-Asian countries and regions will become increasingly closer. The global economic integration will also facilitate regional cooperation. Deepening economic cooperation and promoting Asian infrastructure connectivity has become an urgent need for cooperation and development in the Pan-Asian region.
