“Western China is a land of magic and hope since ancient times. At the turn of the century, the Chinese government launched the Western Development Strategy, ushering the vast west into a new chapter with racing economy, radically improved urban and rural environment and leaping development of people’s livelihood. Wang Yang finally stressed, “Nestled in the southwestern region of China, Sichuan is endowed with beautiful mountains and rivers and friendly locals. The favorable environment for living, entrepreneurship and businesses has earned it the name of ‘Land of Abundance’. Sichuan also leads in the western region in population and economy. Its comprehensive industrial system and great market potential make it an important player in the western region. More importantly, surviving the earthquakes in Wenchuan and Ya’an, peoples in Sichuan have shown their spirit of openness, inclusiveness, solidarity, toughness and bravery by composing a magnificent chapter from solemn to heroic themes on this poetic land. This is the intangible wealth of Sichuan people and the spirit required for the Western Development Strategy. With such spirit, we shall upgrade the poor west fundamentally and build it into a great homeland with prosperous economy, advanced society, beautiful environment and happy people.”
