About 380 Volunteers Ready for WCIF to Promote Image of Sichuan

In Guixi Ecological Park at Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, the surface of the lake ripples. The oath-taking rally of the 16th WCIF was held here, indicating official launch of volunteer activity for WCIF.

The 16th WCIF, themed by "Western china, Opportunities for the World", is scheduled to be held from November 3 to November 14 in Chengdu in two stages. Germany is acted as the guest of honor, Guizhou Province is the rotating presidency unit and Suining of Sichuan is the theme city. At the Fair, 10 major events and 60 special activities will be planned and organized. The total exhibition area is about 200,000 square meters.

About 380 volunteers are ready for the Fair and will provide such services as reception, assistance, exhibition service and interpretation during the Fair.

Excellent volunteers for WCIF

260 volunteers attended the oath-taking rally, including representatives from Sichuan Normal University, Southwest University for Nationalities, Sichuan University Jincheng College, Sichuan International Studies University, Chengdu College of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu Polytechnic, Sichuan Post and Telecommunication College and Sichuan University of Media and Communication as well as social volunteers. They, with heroic bearing, were the most beautiful view on site.

The oath-taking rally started with majestic national anthem. Zhao Weiping, deputy secretary-general of Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, announced the launch of volunteering for the 16th WCIF.

“I would like to be a volunteer of the 16th Western China International Fair. I am committed to   , to making a contribution to Western China International Fair!” At the oath-taking rally, Li Yang, the team leader of Chengdu Hi-tech Zone Volunteer Association, led the oath. 260 volunteer representatives took oath in chorus. Powerful voice resounded through the park.

“For the 16th WCIF, there are 380 volunteers standing out through online recruitment and selection.” Yu Shengmei, director of Division of WCIF Affairs, Sichuan Bureau of Expo Affairs, introduced, all volunteers are outstanding. “For example, volunteers for Sino-German Forum are proficient in German.”

It is reported that volunteers for this Fair have been recruited in a targeted way. Social volunteers have been recruited from such units as Chengdu Hi-tech Zone Volunteer Association and Sichuan Airlines, while student volunteers have been recruited from universities and colleges like Sichuan University of Media and Communication.

It is said that after the oath-taking rally, the volunteer working team will provide comprehensive training, professional training and pre-job training for volunteers. Volunteers for WCIF mainly provide following services, i.e. reception service, exhibition service and business etiquette service. Based on specific requirements of each post, service intention and professional skills of volunteers, volunteers are arranged accordingly so as to ensure better voluntary service quality and level.

It is understood that since the first WCIF, an increasing number of countries, multinational corporations and overseas enterprises has selected WCIF as the best platform to expand their businesses. In the last 15 sessions of WCIF, more than 10,000 investment cooperation agreements were signed with a contract investment volume of RMB 5.22 trillion. WCIF was included in “One Belt and One Road” strategy in Chinese Government’ White Paper and became one of the ten major national convention and exhibition that promotes the construction of “One Belt and One Road”.

“In the latest 6 sessions of WCIF since 2009, nearly 2,000 student volunteers actively participated in the Fair, becoming the beautiful view of WCIF.” Zheng Li, secretary-general of secretariat of WCIF Organizing Committee and director of Sichuan Bureau of Expo Affairs, pointed out, personal cultivation and service quality of volunteers represent images of WCIF, Sichuan Province and western China, even the image of China when they provide service for foreign guests. Voluntary service and spirit of “dedication, friendship, mutual aid and progress” complement with the concept of WCIF of “cooperation, sharing and mutual benefits”.

“I feel lucky to become a volunteer of WCIF. During my college time, I have a chance to participate in such international event as a volunteer. This is a rare experience and also an important opportunity to improve self-quality.” Liu Jiexuan, the volunteer representative of the 16th WCIF from Sichuan Normal University excited, “I will show the image of WCIF with good cultivation and excellent service and make my own contribution to success of WCIF.”

At the oath-taking rally, participating leaders presented flags to volunteering team and volunteer groups for this Fair.

After the ceremony of the oath-taking rally, volunteers held Parkour activity and guests also participated in the activity. This is the first to hold oath-taking rally in the form of Parkour, indicating expectation and wish for the Fair.

The oath-taking rally was attended by Zhao Weiping, deputy secretary-general of Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, Zheng Li, director of Sichuan Bureau of Expo Affairs, Wang Mian and Liu Ying, vice directors of Sichuan Bureau of Expo Affairs, and hosted by Yang Qinglong, vice director of Sichuan Bureau of Expo Affairs. Huang Dong, director of Volunteer Service Division of Chengdu Municipal Office of Spiritual Civilization, Yang Jun, director of Party-Masses Bureau of CDHT and relevant leaders from Southwest University for Nationalities and Sichuan Normal University also attended the event.
